Winter escape

Nope these pics are not in order . Why is blogger not as easy as it used to be?? may change to a different blog hosting domain .. we'll see.

So it was bitterly , bitterly cold and wet in the days leading up to leaving. No fun for packing a camper at all. Well despite all that had to be done we got underway, and off to a lovely start when we dropped our Sea Monkeys off to Bailey for babysitting ! (Wonder how that is going LOL !) Anthea sent us on our way with some scrummy cupcakes for the road. Ta xx

Made it to Renmark rather late, up early and on to Carine & Lyndo's. Stopped at Bow Hill, South Australia where Brad had a growers meeting with some onion farmers. The girls & I amused ourselves checking out the nearby Murray River and the houseboats (inspiring us for an adventure of another kind in the future). Had a little photo shoot in some old stone house ruins from the pioneering times, typical of this region.

tried to enjoy the famous town of Hahndorf later in the day but it was just too wet.

Made it to Carine & Lyndon's, had great time catching up, and enjoying the gorgeous guest room Rin has created ! It's very worth the trip believe me :) Moonta, SA is totally cute, unspoilt little village by the ocean

Port Augusta was freezing, our first camp. Brad had a shocker of a bad back going on, so we stayed 2 days (intended itinerary going pear shaped already !! ) so he could get to a chiro or something).

Coober Pedy is amazing - the kids loved the opals. Hope to spend more time on the way home.

Alice Springs. A totally happening place in the middle of nowhere. Lots to do, lots going on. Highlights? Brad, Neah & I learnt the art of Aboriginal basket weaving from a local, the Indigenous art galleries, the Desert Park experience, the McDonnell Ranges and local spectacular scenery in general. Catching up with Clint & Heidi and their 2 little gals.

On to Tennant Creek - long stretch, long day ... punctuated only by the Devils Marbles. had a play here , amazing, amazing. Our camp was just North of Tennant Creek at a place called the 3 ways Roadhouse. Is a very basic camp ground, but had a few somewhat grassy sites, which I thought would be good ... but Brad liked the spot down the back the best ... (picture some arguing going on here now .. :) ... ) anyways - he wins, he's the boss! and we set up camp in the very dry, very red dusty dirt at the back near some dead shrubby looking stuff, a bit of real rubbish .. ugghh. Anyways, later that Night Neah burnt her hands kinda bad on the gas lantern .. oh dear .. but guess what all that dead uninteresting stuff was growing in the dirt by our site .. Aloe Vera ! Hoorahh ! So it was just as well we were there and not in 'my' spot on the grass way over yonder where we would never had known about the life saving cactus. !

next stop. Mataranka Thermal Springs at Mataranka Homestead. Wow. And oh soo nice. We stay here 2 nights. It's soo good after all the long driving days.

Not too far into Darwin. Not camping. In a an apartment for 6 days, overlooking the sea. It's so hot (Is it really Winter ?) we sleep with the air conditioner going. Tonight we are going to the famous Mindil Beach markets.

A few pics, takes a long time to upload :(

5 more little weeks ,

and then off on our adventure :)

gosh I hope we finish getting ready in time, need to purchase a camping fridge, camping bunks for the kids, get a canopy put on Brad's ute & a dual battery system installed, ahh what else ? hmm, maybe some audio books downloaded to my ipod for the long driving days to keep us entertained ?

where to ? the heart of Australia, one of the seven great wonders of the world (The Rock), Coober Pedy, Kakadu, 'the Alice', Darwin and some other national parks.

my only real worry ? crocodiles ! And I would love to 'arrange' an event that would cuase Brad's mobile to be 'accidently' left at home ... have to get creative about that. ( don't tell him ! and no he NEVER ever checks our blog .. )

hope you are having a great day.

Random summer school holiday stuff

Australia Day we went and spent the day out with Derek, Anthea, Bailey & Greg , Rachel, & kids. After a morning tea at the Mount Beauty cafe we then mosied on up to Falls Creek. Walked in to Wallace's Hut. (Old historic cattlemans shelter) and had a picnic. This is the only picture I got of before the batteries died ..

We bought a camper trailer (on e-bay ! yay for e-bay ! ) and the kids had fun sleeping in it in our backyard for a few days. Looking forward to giving it a proper outing at Easter time.

And it's just been tooooo hot ! days and days of 40 plus are seeming to become weeks of 40 plus . So the kids take wet face cloths to bed, we stay indoors, the kids are kept in their classrooms all day, we swim in the lake, we swim in the neighbours pool, wear as little clothing as is possibly decent :) and the kids have fun imagining all the other places to live ! Neahs's favourite idea so far is to build an igloo. Stay cool, x

Baby Lewis

Once upon a time, and not so long ago it seems , we had our very own special "Mary Poppins". Helping me, and giving lots of love to my three little girls when they were all so little. Ok, so her real name is Karlynda (& yes she is v. special) & is most commonly known by family & friends as 'Poppy'. Well she (& proud hubby, Wayne) has a her very own baby now. Was much fun to to visit them recently and meet Lewis :)

We love to expend some energy on the Lake Hume dam wall, especially with a friend (in this instance Jamieson). And stop and look out and down at the mighty Murray River, all the turtles, pelicans, and big ugly looking european carp !

Bonjour 09 !

well, where to begin ? what to tell ?

The kids were well rewarded at their end of year school presentation. Neah receiving again a Principals Award for exemplary behaviour for the entire year, Marilla for careful craft work and Olympia for excellent tracing ! Next year - oops, this year (!) they are all starting at a new school, we are moving along up the road a wee bit to Trinity Anglican College. lots of reasons, the positive ones being that there is a strong possibility of Trinity sending a school bus out our way ... fingers crossed .. & Olly & Rilla will benefit from being able to go in separate classes. Will be rather different - quiet I guess for me with all the children of at school, is their a word for that - empty nester or something ??

Had a very happy xmas. Christmas day was lots of fun for the kids, & feasting for us adults! The kids were duly paid a visit from Santa & are enjoying their new toys, littlest pet shops, polly pockets, an ant circus, a couple of 100 piece jigsaws (which I hoped would fill in a bit of holiday time, but they can get them done in next to no time lol ) & various bits & pieces. I was spoilt with a new camera, a pretty little pink Nikon. small & light enough to hang out in my handbag, no more missing those impromptu shots :) .
So here's a few pics .

Neah & Brad . Neah's 1st Mini Cooper :)

Ahh yes - the feasting .. well, was a combined effort & produced spectacular results, Anna, Anthea, Rach & myself each took a part of this menu

highly recommended :)

The last evening of 08 was a wonderful end to the year, wednesday night fellowship meeting - subject : peace . Then went round to Rach & Gregs spent a wee while there then left the kids to play and Brad & I went to our neighbour, Tracey's 40th B'day for a bit then back to Greg & Rach's to see the New Year in & watch the fireworks from their verandah. Late night - but a goodie. !
Spent a bit of time catching up with an old friend, Carine who's 'home' with her brand new hubby Lyndon for xmas. Yay ! wonderful to get to know Lyndo better, and forge new friendships !

starting to ramble now ... better stop :)

October

Been everywhere, done much and so much more to do and so much still to be done that should be done ...

The best bits .
* Carine & Lyndo's wedding
* Meeting new friends at the wedding
* 4 whole glorius days with Brad all to myself ! :)
* A Sunday spent with Phil and Michelle
* Hanging out in beautiful Glenelg,
* My Crabapple tree's flowering
* A picnic in the park with all the mums and all the new babies :) (& now there's one more! .. Josh Thompson born 21st Oct. )
* The kids having a holiday at Carrathool with their Grandma & Grandad, (while we went to S.A. )

The not so good.
* Truly the drought has gone on far too long .. is it a drought ? when do we start calling it the new climate conditions. When will Dad revise the 'average' rainfall expected for his property ... when I was growing up it was allways "24 inches per year" . It's been a loong time now ... since he ever saw 24 inches per year on that property ... Truly in all my 33 years, it has never looked worse , and truth is it couldn't. When the paddocks are bare - totally - .. then they can not be any barer .

Well on that cheery note :)
here are some pics of the beautiful bride and the bridal party.
